Development Path
Hockey development doesn't happen overnight — and it doesn't happen in isolation. The Columbus Mavericks organization, together with its youth and high school partners, offers a connected pathway for players from age 8 through 20 to develop their game within a single family of programs. From first strides on the ice through junior hockey and beyond, the goal at every level is the same: to prepare players for the next step, and ultimately, to create opportunities to play college hockey.
This pathway isn't a conveyor belt. Players develop at different rates, and advancement is earned — not assumed. What the Mavericks development path offers is a consistent environment, a shared philosophy, and the organizational depth to meet players where they are and help them get where they want to go.

EYHA Mavericks
The foundation of the Mavericks development path begins with the EYHA Mavericks, the Columbus Mavericks' exclusive youth hockey partner. Through house league, Select, and Tournament team programming, the EYHA Mavericks provide young players with a competitive environment designed to build fundamental skills and a genuine love of the game.
Select and Tournament teams are formed through an evaluation process, ensuring players are competing alongside peers who share their commitment level. As players progress through the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U levels, the focus shifts gradually from foundational development toward the competitive preparation needed to advance.
For the most talented players coming out of the 16U level, the Columbus Mavericks Premier program represents a potential next step. For the majority, the Northeast Mavericks provide the ideal bridge between youth hockey and junior play.

Northeast Mavericks
For high school-aged players across Central Ohio, the Northeast Mavericks fill a critical gap. With only a handful of high schools in the area fielding their own hockey programs, the Northeast Mavericks — a proud member of the Ohio Scholastic Hockey League since 2005 — open the door to competitive club hockey for players regardless of which school they attend.
Fielding both a Varsity and Junior Varsity team, the Northeast Mavericks provide a structured, competitive environment for players roughly ages 14 through 18. For many, this is where raw talent gets refined — where players learn to compete consistently, develop their hockey IQ, and begin to attract the attention of junior programs.
The Northeast Mavericks serve as a natural bridge to the Columbus Mavericks for players who are ready to make the jump to junior hockey and pursue college hockey at the next level.

Columbus Mavericks
The Columbus Mavericks represent the top of the development path — the point where players who are serious about college hockey make the transition to junior play. Competing in both the USPHL Premier division and the NCDC, the Mavericks offer two distinct junior pathways within one organization.
For players entering the junior ranks for the first time, the Premier program provides a competitive Tier 3 environment where development continues and college opportunities are actively pursued. For players who are ready to compete at the Tier 2 level immediately, the NCDC program offers a more demanding environment with direct visibility to NCAA programs.
Placement is never about putting a player at the highest level available — it's about finding the right fit at the right time. Over eight seasons, more than 50 Mavericks alumni have moved on to Tier 2 leagues, NCAA Division I and III programs, ACHA competition, and minor professional hockey. That track record is the product of honest evaluation, intentional development, and a genuine commitment to each player's long-term goals.
