Sangster Joins Mavs Pre-Post Coaching Staff

The Columbus Mavericks ownership group announced this week that long-time central Ohio hockey fixture, Rob Sangster has been hired to join the coaching staff for the Mavs' new U16 & U18 Pre/Post teams.

The Kitchener, Ontario native brings a wealth of high-level playing and coaching experience to the Mavericks. The former Vancouver Canucks draft pick spent 4 years playing in the Ontario Hockey League for the Kitchener Rangers and Ottawa 67's. Following his OHL days, Sangster spent a number of years playing professional hockey, including a stop with the famed Columbus Chill of the ECHL.

After wrapping up his professional hockey career, Rob settled in Columbus and began coaching. Sangster has been the Varsity Head Coach of the St. Charles High School for the past 9 seasons. In addition to his coaching roles, Sangster also owns the Hockey Training Center in Columbus and keen observers of the Mavericks' game broadcasts this past season may recognize Sangster's voice as he sat in as a Color Analyst with the Voice of the Mavs, Gero Von Dehn, for a number of home games.

Mavericks Co-Owner, Joe Gillespie, reflected on the experience and value that Sangster brings to the program; "Rob has been a Pilar of high school hockey in central Ohio for the last 20+ years. His St. Charles teams always play with passion and toughness that reflect Rob’s playing style. We are blessed to have him join our staff."

Away from the rink, Sangster resides in Columbus his wife, Nichole. The couple also have three grown children: twins Tyler and Trever, and Cameron.
