Mavs Sweep the Oilers

After enjoying a few weeks off for the holidays, the Mavericks kicked off 2022 with a bang by sweeping the Wooster Oilers in a home-and-home series. Over the course of two games, the Mavs racked up a total of 18 goals for, while allowing only 2 against.

The weekend kicked off on Friday night at the home of the Mavericks, OhioHealth Chiller North in Lewis Center, OH. Despite the 8-1 final score, the started out looking very evenly matched. Brian Odstrchel opened the scoring for the Mavs just 31 seconds into the game with a goal assisted by Jadon Beard and Jack Williams. Following the quick strike, nearly the rest of the first period would go scoreless, until the Oilers answered back with just under 30 seconds left.

Following the first intermission, it was all Mavericks for the rest of the game. Jack Williams opened the second period scoring just 20 seconds in with a goal assisted by Brian Odstrchel and Colin Crowley. Jadon Beard was next up, just 23 seconds later as he was assisted by Colin Crowley and Thiago Jeronimo. Colin Crowley added his name to the score sheet at the 11:37 mark, as he put one past Wooster Netminder, Luke Bell, with an assist from Thiago Jeronimo. Anton Petrovskiy would round out the second period scoring with a goal at the 16:17 mark, assisted by Brian Odstrchel and Jared Burkhart.

As the final period commenced, Jared Burkhart would add his first goal of the game at the 5:19 mark, assisted by Eric Podgorny and Tyler Isherwood. Jack Williams was the next to score, tallying his second goal of the game, at the 13:50 mark, assisted by Tyler Isherwood and Colin Crowley. After a creative back-and-forth passing play, Graham Wood scored the final goal of the game at the 15:35 mark, assisted by Jaxson Gillespie.

Zach Waizmann got the start in net for the Mavericks and turned away 22 of 23 shots in the outing to pick up the win.

The Mavericks hit the road on Saturday as the series shifted to the home of the Oilers, Alice Noble Ice Arena. In a lopsided game that looked much like Friday’s matchup, the Mavs rolled out of Wooster with the weekend sweep by a final score of 10-1.

Colin Crowley opened the scoring for the Mavs with an unassisted goal at the 7:00 minute mark. Ryan Lempicki joined the fray just 46 seconds later with his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Jaxson Gillespie. Ryan Mackey would score his first of two goals on the night at the 9:25 mark, assisted by Chance Settles and Bailey Doust. The Oilers would score their lone goal of the game at the 16:02 mark to take the game into the first intermission with a 3-1 Mavericks lead.

The second period would see a barrage of Mavericks goals, kicked off by Thiago Jeronimo at the 5:13 mark, assisted by Jadon Beard and Brian Odstrchel. Ryan Mackey was next up, tallying his second goal at the 8:17 mark, assisted by Jackson Balemian and Graham Wood. Jackson Balemian then add his name to the goals column at the 9:32 mark, assisted by Eric Podgorny. Kevin Uhlir would score his 16th goal of the season at the 13:34 mark, assisted by Jack Williams and Brian Odstrchel. Bailey Doust would round out the second period scoring at the 16:15 mark whit a goal assisted by Chance Settles and Jack Williams.

The scoring would slow in the third period as the Mavs scored their final two goals of the game. Anton Petrovskiy would score first, at the 11:33 mark, assisted by Kevin Uhlir and Tyler Isherwood, followed by Chance Settles at the 18:03 mark, assisted by Bailey Doust and Eric Podgorny.

Alex Toth was in net for the Mavericks, stopping 22 of 23 shots on the night to pick up the win.

The Mavericks are on the road this upcoming weekend as they travel to Lockport, NY to take on the Buffalo Stampede in their second series against the Atlantic West division opponents this season.
