Mavericks Top the Cyclones

GAME RECAPS

Mavericks Top the Cyclones

The Mavericks traveled to Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, OH on Thursday for their lone game of the week as they took on Great Lakes division newcomers, the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones. This was the two team’s third matchup of the year as the Mavs entered the contest with a 2-0 lead in the series.

As the first period got underway in the 17,500 seat home of the ECHL Cyclones, the two teams traded offensive pressure, but it was the Cyclones who struck first as Willie Seibel scored at the 11:45 mark. The Mavs would return the favor just five minutes later as recent acquisition, Jack Williams scored his first goal in a Columbus uniform, assisted by Tyler Isherwood and Kevin Uhlir. That wouldn’t be all for the Mavericks in the first period; however, as just a minute later, Thiago Jeronimo scored the team’s second goal of the game, assisted by Graham Wood and Brian Odstrchel, giving the Mavs a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.

It would be the Mavericks who would strike first in the second period, as Anton Petrovskiy scored at the 9:46 mark, assisted by Kevin Uhlir and Tyler Isherwood. Looking to claw their way back, the Cyclones would cut the lead to one as Willie Seibel scored his second goal of the game at the 15:05 mark to send the game into the third period at a score of 3-2. While the third period would see plenty of physical action and scoring chances, the Mavs would ultimately hold off the Cyclones to take home a 3-2 victory.

Frank Murphy got the start in net for the Mavs and turned away 32 of 34 shots in the win. The Mavs will enjoy a rare weekend off before rounding out the month of December at the USPHL Chicago Showcase on December 17-19.
