The Mavericks notched two back-to-back victories at home this weekend against fellow expansion franchise Fort Wayne Spacemen. The weekend sweep ushers in the first winning streak in franchise history. Saturday’s matchup was a high-scoring affair, with the Mavericks coming out on top 9-5. The Mavericks jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first with goals by Jack Wander (Tristan Boytar), Deric Richison (Tyler Riddle, Jared Matley), Nik Jozefiak (Deric Richison), and Isaac Jones (Braydn Krajicek, Jack Wander). The second period saw more lopsided scoring from the Mavericks, with goals by Isaac Jones (Nik Jezefiak, Jack Wander), Tyler Riddle (Tristan Boytar), and Keegan Hoover (Deric Richison, Tristan Boytar). The Spacemen made a third-period comeback effort, scoring three goals, but the Mavericks answered the call with two more goals by Jared Matley (unassisted) and Keegan Hoover (Trevor Kraska, Isaac Jones). Hayden Hoover got the victory between the pipes for the Mavericks, stopping 38 of the 43 shots he faced. Sunday’s rematch was a much more physical and closely-fought game, with the Mavericks fending off an exciting third-period barrage from the Spacemen to secure their second victory of the weekend, 6-4.The Mavs again jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first period with two goals from Keegan Hoover, assisted by Tyler Riddle and Deric Richison, and a goal by Deric Richison, assisted by Tyler Riddle and Keegan Hoover. The Spacemen came roaring back in the second period, outscoring the Mavericks 3-2 to go into the second intermission down only one goal. The Mavericks second period goals came from Jack Wander (Braydn Krajicek, Trevor Kraska), and Keegan Hoover who solidified his hat trick at 7:10 in the second period, assisted by Jared Matley. The third period saw an exciting back and forth, with both teams seeing numerous scoring opportunities. After the Spacemen pulled their goaltender late in the third and the Mavericks fought off multiple scoring changes, Tyler Riddle sealed the victory with an empty net goal just two seconds shy of the buzzer with an assist by Deric Richison. Luke Bell tallied his third victory of the season in net for the Mavericks, stopping 33 of the 37 shots he faced. The Mavericks are back at home this Friday, November 1st to face off against Great Lakes Division rival, the Toledo Cherokee.
