Mavericks Notch First Win on the Road
PLAYER SIGNINGS
The Mavericks secured their first win in franchise history this weekend in dramatic fashion, with a 5-4 overtime victory over the Lake Erie Bighorns. After dropping the first game in a hard-fought and physical weekend set to the Bighorns, 3-1 on Friday, the Mavericks came storming back on Saturday, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period with goals from Jack Wrightsel, Jack Wander, and Aidan King. The second period looked to be more of the same when Braydn Krajicek added a fourth goal from the point at the 17 minute mark, before the Bighorns added one of their own before the end of the period. The third period saw more physical play before the Bighorns mounted a surge of their own, scoring three goals to even the score before the end of regulation. The score was tied 4-4 as the clock ran out on regulation play, which led to a 5-minute 3-on-3 overtime period. The overtime period was marked by a good amount of back and forth play on the wide open ice surface, with both teams seeing their fair share of scoring chances. With the clock winding down, Deric Richison put the game on his stick, tip-toeing around the defense and tickling the twine, beating the Bighorns goalie high glove side at 3:21 in overtime to wing the game in dramatic fashion. Strongsville, OH native, Luke Bell, got his first start of the season in net, and stood tall stopping 32 of 36 shots, and kept the Mavericks in the game during the 3-on-3 overtime period. The Mavericks return home to Ohio Health Chiller North this weekend to face the defending USPHL National Runner Up, Metro Jets on Friday, September 20th and a re-match against the Toledo Cherokee on Saturday, September 21st.
