Mavericks Go 2-2 at USPHL Detroit Showcase

The Mavericks faced off against four teams from the Midwest-East Division this weekend at the USPHL Detroit Showcase in Fraser, Michigan. After busy four games in three days, the Mavericks came out of the weekend with a 2-2 record, including a commanding 11-1 win on Friday and the team’s first Shutout victory on Sunday. Friday afternoon, the Mavericks faced off against the Motor City Hockey Club and tallied a commanding 11-1 victory. Captain, Trevor Kraska, and Upper Arlington native, Jack Wrightsel, both walked away from the win with Hat Tricks, with assists from A.J. Kandel, Jack Wander, Aidan King, Ben Brown, Deric Richison, and Tyler Riddle. The remaining Mavericks goals were score by Jack Wander, A.J. Kandel, Jared Matley, Deric Richison, and Aidan King. Luke Bell secured his second victory of the season in net, stopping 23 of the 24 shots he faced. The first game in Saturday’s double header saw the Mavericks take on the Chicago Cougars and battle to a tough 5-1 loss. The Mavericks’ lone goal was scored by Jack Wander in the second period, assisted by Captain, Trevor Kraska. Hayden Hoover had a busy morning in net, stopping 37 of the 42 shots he faced. The Mavericks were back in action Saturday afternoon, facing off against the Metro Jets Development Program (MJDP). The MJDP team gave the Mavericks a physical game and came out on top, beating Columbus 6-1. The Mavericks lone goal in the Saturday afternoon contest was scored by Jack Wrightsel with an assist from Keegan Pullins. Jonathon Szekeres was in net for the Mavericks, stopping 18 of 24 shots. The Mavericks came firing back on Sunday morning in their final game of the showcase against the Midwest Blackbirds. The Mavericks bested the Blackbirds, winning 6-0. The lone first period goal was scored by Tyler Riddle, with assists from Olim Toirov and Jared Matley. Keegan Hoover netted the only second period goal with assists from Tyler Riddle and Deric Richison. The Mavericks turned up the heat in the third period, scored by Keegan Pullins, Jack Wander, Trevor Kraska, and Braydn Krajicek, with assists from Deric Richison, Jared Matley, Trevor Kraska, Olim Toirov, and Marquise Crockett. Hayden Hoover got his first shutout of the season, stopping all 16 shots he faced. The Mavericks are back in action this weekend with a split road/home series. The Mavericks will play the Toledo Cherokee, at the Team Toledo Ice House on Friday, October 18th at 7:00 PM, and return home to Ohio Health Chiller North on Saturday, October 19th to face off against the Metro Jets at 6:30 PM.
