PLAYER SIGNINGS
The Mavs faced off against a tough and undefeated Pittsburgh Vengeance team in a home-and-home series this past weekend. After two hard fought, tight battles, the Vengeance came out on top in both games with a 7-4 victory on Friday and a 2-0 win on Saturday. The weekend series kicked off with a road game at Pittsburgh’s Alpha Ice Complex on Friday. The two teams wasted no time putting points on the scoreboard in this back and forth high scoring affair. After an early Pittsburgh goal, the Mavericks quickly fired back with the first goal, scored by Keegan Hoover, assisted by Isaac Jones, and the second scored by Braydn Krajicek, assisted by Tim Kramer and Tyler Dickerson. The Vengeance would score late in the first to send the teams into the first intermission at a 2-2 tie. The second period saw the Vengeance pull ahead, scoring two goals to the Mavericks’ one. Deric Richison netted the Mavs lone second period unassisted goal. The Mavs came out of the gate quickly in the third period with an unassisted goal by rookie, Graham Wood, to even the score at 4 a piece. After a physical third period, the Vengeance would pull ahead with 3 unanswered goals to take the game 7-4. Mavericks Goalie, Alex Toth had a busy night between the pipes and kept the Mavs in the game, turning away 45 of the 52 shots faced. The Mavericks returned home to OhioHealth Chiller North on Saturday night for the second game of the series in what would turn out to be one of the most exciting and close fought games of the season. In an intense goaltending battle, the Vengeance would pull out a 2-0 victory. Pittsburgh would get out to an early 1-0 lead after scoring half way through the first period. The rest of the game was marked by no shortage of exciting scoring chances, physical play, and highlight reel saves. After a flurry of scoring chances by the Mavericks in the third period, the Vengeance would hold on and pop in an empty net goal in the final minute to seal the victory. Tyler Dorion had a stellar night in goal for the Mavericks, turning away 29 of the 30 shots he faced. The Mavericks are back in action this weekend with another home-and-home series against the Metro Jets. The Mavs will play at home this Friday, October 16th at 7:30.
