Mavericks fall to the Jets
Lewis Center, Ohio—In the Mavs’ sole game this weekend, the Metro Jets defeated the
Columbus Mavericks on Friday evening, 9-1.
Veteran forward Jaxson Gillespie scored the Mavs’ single goal of the game, with an assist from
right wing Matt Scott, 6:57 into the second period.
Rogers, Minnesota goalie Matthew Powell started the game in net, saving 21/24 shots on goal,
but was pulled early in the second period in favor of rookie goalie Kyle Diehr, who saved 27 of
the Jets’ 33 shots on goal in his seventh game of the season.
In addition, while most of the goals of the game came from the Jets, both teams racked up their
penalty minutes: the Mavs saw 8 minor penalties, 3 major penalties, 3 misconducts, and 1
disqualification to the Jets’ 14 minors and 2 misconducts.
The Mavs take on the Toledo Cherokee in a pair of games this weekend, starting Friday night in
Toledo before hosting the Cherokee at the OhioHealth Ice Haus at 6:30 p.m.
