The Mavericks faced off against Great Lakes division rival, the Lansing Wolves this weekend in a two-game home stand. After two physical contests and an overtime session on Sunday, the Mavs came out of the weekend 0-2 following 6-4 and 4-3 (OT) losses. The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead on Saturday with a goal by Peoria, IL native, Jared Matley, with an assist from Edmond, OK transplant, Isaac Jones. The Mavericks carried that lead into the second period, again scoring first with a goal by Deric Richison, assisted by Keegan Hoover and Tyler Riddle. After the Wolves scored to bring the deficit to one goal, Mavericks captain, Trevor Kraska scored the Mavs third goal, with an assist by Braydn Krajicek to regain a two-goal lead. The Wolves scored one more time to go into the second intermission with the Mavericks leading 3-2. The Wolves came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders in the third period, scoring 4 goals to jump out to a 6-3 lead. Deric Richison did his best to close the gap with his second goal of the game coming with just 4 seconds remaining in regulation, assisted by Jared Matley and Trevor Kraska. Strongsville, OH native, Luke Bell got the start in net for the Mavericks, and stayed busy, stopping 52 of 58 shots on the night. The Mavericks were back in action on Sunday morning with a rematch against the Wolves. The Mavs again jumped out to an early 1-0 first period lead with a goal by Tyler Riddle, assisted by Braydn Krajicek and Jared Matley. The Mavericks struck first again in the second period with a goal by Jared Matley, assisted by Tyler Riddle. The Wolves bounced back and evened the score with two goals to close out the second period. The Wolves drew first blood in the third period with an early goal, but the Mavericks tied it up half way through the third period with a goal by Deric Richison, assisted by Trevor Kraska. The clock would run out on regulation play in a 3-3 tie, forcing the game into overtime. The Wolves dashed the Mavericks’ hopes just 48 seconds into the overtime period, with a goal by Cam Smith. Hayden Hoover got the start in net for the Mavericks, stopping 39 of 43 shots on the afternoon.  The Mavericks are back in action this coming weekend with a home-and-home series against the Metro Jets. They will play at Fraser Hockeyland in Fraser, MI on Saturday, before returning home to play a special home game at the NTPRD Chiller in Springfield, OH at 3:45 PM on Sunday.
