Mavericks Drop Two in Lansing

The Mavericks were on the road this past weekend to face-off against Great Lakes Division opponent Lansing Wolves. The Mavs were on the losing end of two physical battles, falling 5-2 on Friday and losing 8-3 on Saturday. The Mavericks scoring came in groups with Jack Wander tallying both of the team’s goals on Friday night. His first goal came unassisted at 1:39 into the first period, with the second one coming 16:18 in the third period, assisted by Olim Toirov and Freddreon Ward.  The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead on Saturday, with a goal by Peoria, IL native Jared Matley, assisted by AJ Kandel and Deric Richison. The Mavs second goal came just three minutes later from Captain, Trevor Kraska, assisted by Keegan Hoover and Tyler Riddle. The Mavericks final goal of the game came late in the second period, again from Trevor Kraska with assists from Keegan Hoover and Tyler Riddle. Hayden Hoover was in net on Friday night, stopping 39 of 44 shots. Hoover got the start on Saturday, stopping 25 of 30 shots. Jonathon Szekeres came in to relieve Hoover half way through the second period and stopped 10 of the remaining 13 shots on the day. The Mavericks are off this weekend as they prepare for the USPHL Detroit Showcase at the home of the Metro Jets - Fraser Hockeyland in Fraser, MI on October 11th - 13th. The showcase will see the Mavericks in several inter-division matchups, facing off agains the Motor City Hockey Club, Chicago Cougars, Metro Jets Development Program, and the Midwest Blackbirds.
