Age Out Feature: Matt Scott
MISC
Mavs alternate captain Matt Scott ages out of junior hockey after playing three years in the Great Lakes Conference.
The right wing from Buffalo, New York started his junior career with the Pittsburgh Vengeance in 2020, and appeared in all 44 regular season and 4 playoff games for the Vengeance in his second season.
In August 2022, Scott signed to the Mavericks, joining his friends and former Pittsburgh teammates, fellow age-out Kyle Hauer and former Mavs goalie Aaron Symons. Scott had a presence as a leader from the start, and was chosen as an alternate captain in October.
Scott took the ice for the Mavericks for the first time against the Metro Jets on October 2, and went on to play 37 games for the Mavs, earning 1 goal and 8 assists.
His goal came at the Chicago showcase on a power play as the Mavs trailed by two goals against the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings, a game he lists as his favorite memory of the season. Scott also assisted in the second goal of the game, to tie up the teams 2-2 with 26 seconds left in regulation, helping the Mavs to a 3-2 finish in overtime.
After junior hockey, Scott hopes to stay involved in the sport as a coach.
“[I’m going to miss] the boys [and] having the honor to wear one of the A’s,” Scott said.
