After a three year junior hockey career, Daniel Schmidt is part of the Mavericks’ nine member age out class. The 6’0” defenseman from Wappingers Falls, New York signed to the Mavericks in June 2022.
Prior to the Mavs, Schmidt played most of his career on the east coast, finishing his 18U career with the Connecticut Jr. Rangers program before a brief stint with the Maine Eclipse of the EHL in 2020-21. He finished the season with the Richmond Generals of the USPHL Southeast division before returning to New York to play with the Islanders Hockey Club in 2021-22, where he appeared in all 44 regular season games.
Across the 42 games in which he appeared as a Mav, Schmidt scored a total of 1 goal and 8 assists. His goal came in a Detroit showcase game against the Dells Ducks on November 19, and contributed to a 5-2 Mavericks win.
Schmidt plans to go to college for engineering while playing hockey.
“I’m not ready for it to be over,” Schmidt said. “[And] to the younger players, take care of your body so you don’t end up feeling like an old man by your age out year.”
