Murphy Signed by North Stars

ADVANCEMENT

Murphy Signed by North Stars

Mavericks Head Coach & GM, Nate Handrahan, announced this week that goaltender, Frank Murphy, has been signed by the Battlefords North Stars for the 2022-23 season. The North Stars are members of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), a Tier 2 Junior A league based in central Canada.

The Toronto, ON native was not only a rookie, but one of the youngest members of the Mavericks roster this past season, but didn't let that stop him from making an impact on the ice. While the rookie goaltender battled for playing time early in the season, he quickly started amassing an impressive stat sheet as the months rolled on and landed in the starting role down the stretch, taking the Mavs into the second round of the USPHL playoffs. By season's end, Murphy had cemented his position as one of the top goalies in the league, finishing the year tied for 3rd in GAA (1.80) and 2nd in save percentage (.940) for all USPHL Premier netminders.

Coach Handrahan shared his excitement for Murphy as he takes the next step in his young career; “Its great to see players climb the ladder and reach their goals. Seeing Murph be able to get to the Tier 2 level in just one season is a testament to his talent and effort. He started the year as a rookie and was our main guy down the stretch. Excited to see the great things he can do a the next level.”

The North Stars reside in the town of Battleford, Saskatchewan, 90 miles west of Saskatoon.
