Mavs Strike Oil in Wooster
GAME RECAPS
The Mavericks traveled north to Alice Noble Ice Arena on Sunday for their only game of the weekend to face off against in-state rivals, the Wooster Oilers. In a physical contest with no love lost, the Mavs came out the victors by a score of 6-1.
The Mavs took control of the first period scoring at the half way mark as Ethan Bishara netted his first of two goals at the 9:27 mark, assisted by Carson Johnston. The 1-0 score would hold strong until the final seconds of the first period when rookie, Tyler Isherwood would light the lamp at 19:59, for his first of two goals on the night, assisted by Anton Petrovskiy and Roman Boffa.
As the second period got underway, the scoring pace slowed as both teams played strong defense. As the second period passed the 16 minute mark, the Oilers’ Tony Romani would draw blood, scoring the home team’s only goal of the game. That goal would be the only scoring action of the second period as the teams went into the intermission looking at 2-1 Columbus advantage.
Looking to solidify their victory, the Mavericks wasted no time as they entered the third period. Defenseman, Brian Odstrchel would score a shorthanded goal just 28 seconds into the period, assisted by Anton Petrovskiy. Just 41 seconds later, the Mavs would strike again as Alex Perez scored an unassisted shorthanded goal. The Mavs kept their foot on the gas in the first half of the third period as Tyler Isherwood scored his second goal of the afternoon, assisted by Colin Crowley at the 3:21 mark. As the final 5 minutes of the game drew near, Ethan Bishara would notch his second goal of the night and 9th of the season at the 15:22 mark, assisted by Carson Johnston to seal the deal on the 6-1 victory. Rookie netminder, Frank Murphy, got his first USPHL start and picked up his first junior hockey victory as he turned away 24 of 25 shots in the outing.
The Mavs are back in action this Friday, October 15th as they play host to the Metro Jets at OhioHealth Chiller North at 7:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now!
