Mavericks Take Metro Jets Down to the Wire

After facing a tough loss on the road to the Metro Jets in the first of a two-game home-and-home series, the Mavericks came roaring back with a vengeance during a special home game held at the NTPRD Chiller in Springfield, OH. The Mavericks gave the defending Great Lakes division champions and national runners-up all they could handle, but the Jets ultimately mounted a late third period comeback to edge the Mavericks out 4-3. The Jets drew first blood, scoring just under two minutes into the first period; however, the Mavericks quickly bounced back with a goal just two minutes later scored by Keegan Hoover, with assists from A.J. Kandel and Jared Matley. The Mavericks took the lead near the halfway mark of the first period, with a goal by Jared Matley, assisted by Trevor Kraska and Jack Wrightsel. The Mavs would carry this lead into the first intermission. The Mavs extended their lead during an excitement filled second period with a goal by A.J. Kandel at the 14 minute mark, with assists from Braydn Krajicek and Keegan Hoover. This third goal caused the Jets to pull their starting goalie, opting for Will Augustine. The Mavs would head into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead. The Jets came out of the locker room in the third period looking for blood, and scored a quick goal just one minute into the period. The Jets would go on to score two more unanswered goals at 6 minutes and 17 minutes into the third period. After an intense back and forth third period with multiple scoring opportunities, the Jets would hold on to win the physical contest 4-3. Hayden Hoover had a busy night between the pipes, turning away 53 of 57 shots fired by the Metro Jets, who nearly doubled the Mavericks shot tally. The Mavericks will have a few weeks off before embarking on a 12-game road trip, including weekend series against the Lake Erie Bighorns (December 6th & 7th) and Lansing Wolves (December 10th & 11th), the 4-game Chicago Showcase (December 20th-22nd), and the 4-game Boston Showcase (January 3rd-5th). The Mavericks next home game will be Friday, January 10th as they take on the Pittsburgh Vengeance for the first time this season.
