Mavericks Sweep Metro Hockey Club

The Columbus Mavericks rounded out the month of October with a two-game home stand against the newest member of the USPHL Great Lakes division, the Metro Hockey Club this past weekend. The Halloween weekend series saw the Mavericks walk away with two victories and move past .500 in the win percentage column. The series kicked off with a Friday night matchup at OhioHealth Chiller North, in which the Mavs would emerge with a 6-0 victory, highlighting the offensive firepower of the team’s rookies. Jack Bortle would start off his impressive evening with the first goal of the game just two minutes in, assisted by Ethan Bishara and Keegan Hoover. As the first period drew to a close, Ethan Bishara would extend the lead to 2-0 with a goal assisted by Tim Kramer and Tyler Dickerson. The second period was all Jack Bortle, as he would score his first goal of the period just two and a half minutes in, assisted by Hayden Ripley. Bortle would secure his first hat trick of the season with his third goal of the night coming just over a minute later, assisted by Deric Richison and Ethan Bishara. The third period was more of the same for the Mavs as the team netted two more goals. The first by Evan Halligan, assisted by Jordan Winrod and Keegan Hoover, while the second would be scored by recent addition, Hayden Ripley on an unassisted laser from the blue line. Second-year goalie, Tyler Dorion would earn his first shutout of the season, as he stopped all 29 shots he faced on the night. The Mavericks looked to carry their momentum into their second matchup against MHC on Halloween night, and were rewarded with a 6-1 victory. MHC would jump out to an early lead in game two as Connor Hilliker scored at the 6:18 mark in the first period. Not deterred, the Mavs answered back with two goals before the end of the period, scored by Jack Bortle (his fourth of the weekend), assisted by Ethan Bishara and Caleb Fifolt, and an unassisted goal by Deric Richison. It would take 16 minutes before the second period would see scoring action as the Mavericks’ Keegan Hoover scored his first goal of the night, assisted by Deric Richison and Caleb Fifolt. Captain, Deric Richison would score his second goal of the night with just one second remaining in the period, assisted by Tim Kramer. The Mavs came out firing in the third period as Keegan Hoover would score his second goal on the night at the 3:24 mark, assisted by Nik Jozefiak and Hayden Ripley. Rookie Max Williams would round out the scoring for the Mavericks as he netted the team’s sixth and final goal of the night, assisted by Tyler Dickerson and Deric Richison. Rookie goaltender, Alex Toth, had another strong performance between the pipes, stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced. The Mavericks are back in action this weekend with one home game and one road game. They will face off against the Ft. Wayne Spacemen at home on Friday, November 6th, followed by a trip to Fraser, MI to take on the Metro Jets on Saturday.
